Addiction was a term used to describe a devotion, attachment, dedication, inclination, etc. Nowadays, however, the term addiction is used to describe a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity, despite harmful consequences to the individual's health, mental state ...
In our world today, addiction is very evident especially to the youth. Sad to say, this not only affects non-Christians but also Christians as well... Addiction not only exist in drugs, alcohol, or sex... It exist in anything that could take control of our lives... For example in our Church, most of our young people are addicted to computer games, that even at times they don't have the focus during sunday services because they keep on talking about some game they're playing... There are so many addiction that this world could offer...
But why do some people, get addicted to anything or anyone...
Maybe simply because, these addictions offer to us happiness, joy, and pleasures...
But what happens after it?? After we get fed up with these earthly pleasures...
Sometimes we would say to ourselves that we wouldn't do it again. We even make pacts with ourselves. We would even promise to God that we wouldn't do these things again. But then, when no one is looking. We start doing these things again, saying to ourselves that we can handle it, we can stop anytime we want to..
Then after getting fed up again, we start to hate ourselves for doing the same old things, and we ask God for forgiveness again and again...
Its a never ending cycle...
What should we do about this...
For some, they would hide, runaway, forget about Gods mercy and forgiveness...
or maybe we can do something about it...
First things we must do is, to realize that we are not alone in this world who feels like this. We are not the only ones who go through this kind of situation... Even apostle Paul spoke of the struggle with doing things what he should not be doing .(Romans 7:18-19)
Second, We must realize that we are slaves to whatever we serve. (Romans 6:16)
Third, we must understand that Christ's gift of salvation is our only ticket out of sin's clutches (Romans 6:6)...
To take advantage of this...
one: we must not let sin reign...(Romans 6:12).. We must keep it away at all cost...
two: Refuse to use our body for sin... We must remember that our body is a holy dwelling place of God's Spirit...
So when urges hit us again... Just remember these steps, Surely we wont get into addiction ever again....
God bless us all...

Hi there. This topic hits home for me. I was married to an addict and my brother is also an addict. It's something that we can never understand unless we've been there. It is truly mindboggling. It's the devil! I stick close to God and beg his mercy that my children are never inflicted w/ such a horrible fate.
